Swimming Pool walkway and staircases

Location: Universiade Games Taipei, Taiwan

Regent was contracted to supply the support structure and access steps for the platform surrounding a temporary swimming pool being installed at the Multi-Purpose Stadium belonging to Taipei University.

The Universiade Games is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). Held every 2 years, it is second only to the Olympic Games in terms of the number of participating athletes, and involves 14 compulsory sports plus 3 selected by the host country. The 2017 Games, hosted over 12,500 competitors.

Shortly after being awarded the Games in 2011, Taipei city authorities decided to convert an existing facility, Taipei University Multi-Purpose
stadium, into the main venue for the swimming events. This involved building a temporary “Olympic-size” pool on the floor of the stadium.
The void between the pool sides and the seating areas is made into a platform walkway using a purpose-made “Cassette” type flooring system manufactured by Wens’ Phoenixx, giving swimmers and games officials full access all around the pool.

Supporting the floor was made complicated by the installation of the filtration equipment and run-off tanks all around the perimeter of the pool structure. However, working closely with local engineers from the client Company, Regent were able to configure a novel design which
enabled FloorStak and iStak supporting elements which were installed even in the most constricted areas.

Access to pool level from the stadium floor was achieved using Regent’s unique Modular Steps.
