FloorStak® Gains Momentum in Defence and Humanitarian Deployments Worldwide

As defence organisations and emergency response agencies place greater emphasis on rapid deployment capability, resilient infrastructure and operational flexibility, a British-engineered flooring and levelling system manufactured in the West Midlands is quietly becoming a critical enabler on the ground.

Manufactured by Regent Engineering Co. Ltd in Walsall, FloorStak® is increasingly being deployed across military, defence and humanitarian projects where speed, durability and adaptability are essential. Designed to operate in austere environments and on uneven terrain, the rugged temporary flooring and support system has already been used by organisations including the German Military (Bundeswehr) and the International Red Cross in demanding international locations such as Burkina Faso.

The system provides a rapid-deployment sub-floor and levelling platform capable of supporting field hospitals, troop accommodation, vehicle access routes and temporary helipads. With infinite height adjustment from 17cm to 2m and static load capacities ranging from 350kg/m² to 750kg/m², FloorStak® has been engineered specifically to overcome the challenges faced in temporary operational environments.

According to Stuart Whitehouse, Managing Director of Regent Engineering, the growing demand for deployable infrastructure reflects wider changes taking place across global defence logistics and emergency preparedness.

“Modern defence operations require infrastructure that can be deployed rapidly, adapted quickly and relied upon in extremely challenging environments,” says Whitehouse. “FloorStak® was designed to solve very practical operational problems — uneven terrain, poor ground conditions, water ingress and the need to create safe, stable working environments almost immediately.”

One of the system’s most significant applications has been within deployable medical facilities. Temporary field hospitals and medical shelters require sterile, stable and level flooring systems that can be installed rapidly without permanent groundwork or complex civil engineering.

“When you are deploying medical capability into remote or hostile environments, ground conditions cannot become a limiting factor,” Whitehouse explains. “FloorStak® creates a clean, elevated and structurally reliable platform that allows medical teams to focus on patient care rather than environmental challenges.”

The versatility of the system has also made it suitable for temporary troop accommodation, helping personnel remain protected from mud, standing water and uneven surfaces in remote operating locations. Beyond accommodation and medical use, the product has also been utilised to support temporary logistics infrastructure, including access routes, storage areas and landing zones.

Importantly for UK defence supply chains, the product is fully manufactured in Britain at Regent Engineering’s long-established facility in the Black Country. The company combines decades of fabrication, pressing and engineering expertise with an increasingly outward-looking strategy towards defence and infrastructure markets.

Recent capability and ground surveys undertaken by Regent Engineering at British military sites, including Larkhill Barracks in Wiltshire, underline the company’s ambitions to further expand FloorStak® deployments across UK defence projects.

“There is a growing recognition that operational readiness depends not only on frontline equipment, but also on the infrastructure that supports personnel, logistics and medical operations,” Whitehouse says. “As a UK manufacturer, we are proud to contribute to that capability through a product that has proven itself internationally in demanding real-world conditions.”

The growing interest in rapidly deployable infrastructure comes as defence organisations across Europe continue to reassess resilience, mobility and sovereign capability. For Regent Engineering, FloorStak® represents both an export success story and an example of how specialist British manufacturers can deliver innovative engineering solutions into highly demanding operational sectors.

With international deployments already established and UK defence engagement increasing, the Walsall manufacturer believes the system is well positioned to support future military and humanitarian requirements alike.

“The exciting part for us is that the applications for FloorStak® continue to evolve,” Whitehouse adds. “Whether it’s supporting medical teams, military personnel or humanitarian operations, the system is helping organisations operate more effectively in environments where reliability and speed matter most.”
